Hannah Tarkinson (Portland, ME) is an artist, craftsperson and musician known for her work under the monikers of Ponono (fine jewelry and leatherwork) and Ghostboxx, isobell, Tark, and Port of Est (music projects). Tarkinson’s most recent works of art blend leather, metals, textiles, and photography into mixed media assemblages.
Tarkinson studied photography and psychology at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst. For the past 22 years, she has honed the skills of both metal and leather work and overtime, has slowly brought the small collage adornments she creates for the body, onto canvas and into the art world.
What was originally intended to be a quiet outlet for rest and solace eventually became recognized and requested by her Ponomo clients who encouraged her to make her artwork available to the public; something that wasn’t a consideration to Tarkinson until then.

Holy Rest III
Artist Statement:
My assemblage, Holy Rest III, is a meditation on the intricacies of journeying from implicit memory to conscious memory.
Using mostly salvaged elements, hours upon hours have been spent in the liminal space of layering pools of light and texture that illuminate the path out of the unseen and into the seen.
The processes of hand tooling/dying/stitching leather, hand forging/stamping metals, and reconstructing vintage/antique textiles are woven together into tapestries of rest and reprieve.
